About

Eden Lennox Born Perth, Western Australia, where she currently lives and works.

Eden Lennox is an artist recognised as a noted contemporary jeweller. She is an academic and educator in fine art with a particular interest in social justice and equity in education. She attended Claremont School of Art from the age of 15, then graduated at 18 as a painting major. During this time, she worked in theatre constructing sets and properties; she pursued this work for several years after graduation working for theatre and dance companies in Western Australia and Queensland. She also trained in cold glass in her 20s and as a silversmith in her early 30s. The latter led her to complete a Masters in Fine Art (Jewellery Production) at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia. She is currently completing a PhD in Art (Jewellery) at RMIT University in Victoria. Lennox has travelled extensively through Australia and globally. She has had nine solo exhibitions in Perth, Western Australia, Sydney, New South Wales, and Townsville in Queensland. In addition, she has participated in over 40 group exhibitions in Western Australia, New South Wales, Queensland, France, and Italy.

Lennox’s current work encompasses jewellery, object, and collage. Her work is positioned as narrative jewellery; the themes that pulse through the work are connected to social signals, memory, and gesture with the body. The narratives often convey a social message to induce a shared recall of time, invite curiosity or playfulness using metonymy and metaphor in her works. Material subversion is central to the play in her practice. Lennox works with a vast spectrum of found objects, such as vinyl records, miniatures, toys, which she curates and assembles with precious metals. Her works consider reuse, the up-cycling ethos, and the visual aesthetics seeded in proto-punk, punk, and post-punk.

“Contemporary art jewellery connects with circuits of value because of the type of agency we, individually or collectively, assign to these objects. The associations may be personal and social, embodying emotive power, utility, or value. These types of circuits of value–a party season, a lap around a park, or a motherboard–are something that we create and often share from the material world around us. Even the most private circuits, what we might call local loops, will still have points of contact with much broader networks. These concomitant relationships intersect with contemporary jewellery objects as found in the material world.”
